We frequently think of mezcal as just a path to inebriation or liquid flavor as distinct from a meal but traditionally our favorite elixir is all tied up with day to day eating and the big festivals throughout Mexico. And, given that it’s Mexico, most of the festivals have some culinary element, usually a big one, always fantastically tasty. That’s why we always pair food with mezcal in our tastings.
We’re very fortunate that Casa Mezcal will be providing the snacks for the New York version of Mezcal: Mexico in a Bottle so you’ll get some great culinary pairings at our tasting. But we’re also bringing in Danny Mena the founding chef from Hecho en Dumbo as well as a string of other restaurants to help paint the picture. He’ll be talking about how he cooks with mezcal and thinks of it as an ingredient and complement to his cooking. But wait, there’s the proverbial more because Danny Mena is also part owner of Mezcales de Leyenda so he knows quite a bit about what goes into a bottle of mezcal so don’t miss it, you’ll definitely head home with some great recipe ideas and inspiration.
