When we said that our panel discussion on Friday, November 13th (you can tell, we’re not superstitious) at La Urbana would be about the Future of Mezcal we were serious. But our panel has been updated so that our crystal ball is that much clearer. We’re proud to announce that Dr. Hipocrates Nolasco, the president of the Consejo Regulador del Mezcal / aka CRM / aka the regulatory body which oversees mezcal, will be on the panel. He and the CRM have been hard at work on a new regulation that may redefine mezcal. We’re looking forward to hearing him talk about that regulation and how he sees the world of mezcal.
He’ll be joined by Sarah Bowen who just published Divided Spirits: Tequila, Mezcal, and the Politics of Production (California Studies in Food and Culture). She has been researching and writing about the state of mezcal and tequila for quite some time and has been doing illuminating work on the topic that we highly recommend you look up. Start here. She is an Associate Professor at North Carolina State University and brings a wealth of experience and thinking about the present and potential futures for mezcal.
We will announce other guests soon. Unfortunately, we’re completely sold out of tickets. Fortunately, many of you got tickets so look forward to the event. If you can’t make it, tell us so that we can make sure that your ticket goes to a worth recipient. Our space is very limited so we won’t be able to accommodate anyone beyond our current list.
